Because let’s face it, she’s brilliant and devious and she WOULD intentionally incorporate a psychological gesture that harkens back to her character’s REAL love interest while her brainwashed psyche is enjoying its simulacrum. I’m pretty new to the fandom and after I saw Resolutions and found out that Janeway and Chakotay never got together, I was so bummed I started reading fics right away. In many of them (oh who am I kidding, in pretty much all of them) Janeway caresses Chakotays Tattoo. So when I got to Workforce I jumped at this moment “Oh my god she’s subconsciously thinking of Chakotay…” In my excitement I forgot to ask myself who the heck was responsible for this!
The actual fuck? I never noticed that.
