I am a huge, unashamed J/C shipper. I love Janeway, I love Chakotay and I love them together (non-canon, fanfic, books, vids – whatever).
But…
In ‘Year of Hell’, when she’s pleading with Voyager and cajoling it and talking with it, it occurs to me every time that Janeway and her ship are the most important relationship in the show. It’s so beautifully done – and showcased in ‘Year of Hell’ – and when she finally smashes Voyager into the Kremin ship it’s a real, visceral moment of total defeat but determination.
It’s stunning.
And every time she speaks to the ship – ‘be kind’ – I can’t deal with it. I just can’t.
