Challenged myself to write a drabble. This sugary domestic fluff piece was the result. Caution, may cause diabetes. 😉

Throughout the fifteen years I have known my wife, I have
seen many of her hidden sides. I have seen her laugh and cry without
inhibition, had to watch her fall apart and put herself back together and am
thankful for being at her side. I like to believe there are not many secrets
left between us, that we may know each other better than we know ourselves.

Yet, as I enter our living room, I stop at the sight in
front of me. Because nothing quite prepared me for seeing her with her face
buried in the small dog’s soft coat, kneeling with her behind raised in the
air. She coos into the dog’s neck, telling Emma a whole string of praise that
no dog at the age of thirteen weeks could have possibly acquired.

My heart swells and I walk over to take a seat next to them.
When Emma notices me, she excitedly licks my hands.

Kathryn looks up with bright eyes, a large smile and some
stray dog hairs on her face, while she rubs Emma’s round, pink belly. And I can’t
help but smile back as sharp little teeth start to toy with my fingers.

So sweet and lovely

“ba-dunk-a-dunk”  lmfao.  He’d absolutely call it that.

Great job, friend.  Now you have to give us all puppies.

Based on an inspiring speech on reading by Kate Mulgrew at Denver Comic Con ‘17.

“Read. Are you reading? And don’t read on a digital device. Don’t read on your phone. Throw that phone away. I want you to go to your local library and get Shakespeare and read Shakespeare. Get Charles Dickens and read Charles Dickens. Get Jane Austen and read Jane Austen. All of the Bronte sisters. Read the Russians. Talk to your mother about it. Share it with your friends. Join a book club. Get passionate. Read. Think. Be. Evolve. Got it? ‘Cause nobody is gonna do it for you, darling. You gotta do it for yourself.”

Fandom Positivity!

I am writing an essay on how Star Trek fandom has enhanced my life and I’d like to include a few comments from other fans. To that end I’ve set up a google form.  It’s just five questions (2 multiple choice and 3 short answers) with space for additional comments. Please feel free to contact me here or by email (anika@manicpixiedust.com) if you have any questions.

My personal story is centered on Kathryn Janeway and Katrina Cornwell so I am especially looking for members of the Admiral’s Legion and/or the Captain’s Brigade (I just made that up) but everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. I will not be able to use all the comments in the essay, but I will publish every answer in a separate post here on tumblr.

Please feel free to share the link with your friends. Thank you!

radioactive-violet said: @pixiedane Hey, for the survey: What if it was two shows/movies that brought us into Star Trek? Should we just pick one and put the other in the comments?

Yes, that’s fine, or you can choose “other” and write them both in.

icecream-junkie said: @pixiedane In regards to the same question, are you looking for the show that brought us into fandom or just generally the show that introduced us to Trek?

Introduced you to Trek. But I’m using the answers anecdotally, not statistically so it’s okay if someone interprets the questions differently. And feel free to elaborate in comments.

loverskisslikedeath said: Hey for how we participate, is that currently, or in the past included as well?

Include anything you’ve done! It’s just to get an idea of who you are 🙂
