Best Janeway Moment: I didn’t realize the banter between Janeway and Chakotay was so good this early on but when Chakotay uses his secret maneuver and Janeway calls it old and he’s all like “well it worked against Star Fleet” and Janeway’s all like lol ur lucky I wasn’t captaining – like I am LIVING for this
Best Janeway Moment: this is totally more of a scene but how amazing is seeing Janeway lounging around her quarters talking to the alien (which is very emotional if you ask me) and she’s only wearing that pink silky thing?!? and how on earth does her hair look such goals even after being asleep??
I just realized that Most of the time Kathryn Janeway smiled because of/ for Chakotay. Sometimes, he was the only reason she smiled. And when she did… everything was alright in the world.
The eight-ball tilted and tipped into the pocket, clunking against the other balls and finding its final resting place.
A large smile radiated on Kathryn Janeway’s face as she called it, “I guess that makes three games in a row.”
A huff escaped him. “Yep, it sure does,” and then under his breath, “it seems no matter how much you drink you still can run the table.”
She stood erect and pushed her shoulders back, loosening the stiffness in her back.
“Kathryn,” he called, “it’s time to go. We are the last two people here and we are never the last ones to leave a party.”
She tilted her head defiantly. “I’m not ready to leave yet.”
He took a step towards her and reached out his hand, “Come on. I know everyone, especially you, is just blowing off some steam since our last encounter with the Hirogen, but we still have early shift tomorrow. Besides, you have had a few too many glasses of Neelix’s special punch.”
Shrugging her shoulders, still not convinced, she simply said, “Let me do what I want.”
She looked cute as hell with the little elf’s hat she was still wearing. In the spirit of the season, Neelix had decorated Sandrine’s with a Christmas flare, including some of the traditional Santa and his elves attire. Tom had placed the green and red hat on her head about half way through the evening and she hadn’t taken it off since.
The way she looked at him, a small pout on her face, turned his thoughts naughty towards one of Santa’s little helpers. He needed to get her back to her quarters, safe and sound, and then beat a quick retreat – just to keep the festivities kosher.
“Listen Kathryn, I’m not leaving you here, alone, with the jigalow. Plus, he’s been eyeing you all night in that dress.”
She wrinkled her eyebrows. “What’s wrong with my dress?”
“Nothing, that’s the problem!” In fact, the dress was perfect – red and fitted with a slight swirl above her knees. It reminded him what good shape she was in and what a desirable shape she had.
“Ahh,” she said, tapping a finger against her lips, “then are you jealous?” Slowly, she sauntered over to the jigalow, whom had propped himself on a stool not to far from where she was playing. Looking into his eyes, she quirked a half smile before running a hand through the holodeck character’s hair.
He took hold of her palm as it fell back to her side and gently raised it to his lips, kissing the soft skin on the inside of her wrist.
*”Damn, now I am,”* he thought. “Okay, enough playing. Now, come on. Put the cue stick down and let’s go. I’ll walk you back to your quarters.”
“No.”
“Kathryn…,” he paused a warning in his tone.
“Come over here and make me, Commander,” she dared.
Chakotay stared at her in disbelief as she pushed the cue behind her back, wrapping her hands firmly around the shaft. Kathryn then pushed her chest out like a rooster and squared her shoulders. She had never been so belligerent, but fuck if it wasn’t turning him on.
He stalked over to her as she planted her feet, her back to the pool table.
Casually he tried reaching around her for the wooden stick, but she maneuvered it out of his reach. Quickly he tried grabbing it with his other hand, thinking her reflexes wouldn’t be as fast with so much alcohol in her system. Again, she avoided him.
He tried a couple more times with no success and she giggled. “Not as easy to get as you assumed,” she teased, the double entendre evident.
Finally, he asserted himself, broad arms both reaching around her at the same time as if in an embrace and his formidable body pressing against her.
As she twisted her body to keep the cue from him her breasts grazed his arm and her hips pushed back against him. “What else could I be doing to blow off steam if not here,” she asked him flirtatiously, catching his eye.
Unexpectedly, he bent his lips to her ear and her body stiffened. “If you aren’t careful Captain, I’ll be helping you blow off steam until the early morning hours – until you can’t even see straight.”
Her mouth dropped open in shock as the cue fell from her hands, bouncing against the pool table before tumbling to the floor.
Chakotay released her, moving down her body as he bent to retrieve the cue, collecting it in his hand.
Her stare followed him, eyes smoked in desire.
When he stood, he took the cue and threw it onto the pool table, his eyes coming to rest on hers’. Chakotay saw his opening and he took it. Reaching up, he twined his fingers into the tresses of her hair that reached her neck and tilted her head up to him. His other hand grasped her by the waist and leaned her back over the pool table. In perfect position, he bent his body over her and lowered his mouth, running his lips over hers’.
At first, Kathryn remained still, her breath caught in her throat. But as his luscious lips moved over her mouth, pressing and tasting, her lips began to respond. Her lips parted and she took his lower lip between her teeth, nibbling and then sucking. Her hands moved around his waist and she pulled him closer, as if she wanted his body to rest atop her, laying themselves out on the felt of the pool table.
Deeply buried desire escaped in the form of moans, breaking their passionate kiss.
And then the moment passed. Eyes still hazy with want, Kathryn regained a sense of control, pressing a palm on his chest as she tried to move herself upright.
Chakotay disentangled his hand from her hair and planted it on the table for balance, pulling them back into a standing position. A mild apology sprung from his lips, “I couldn’t help myself. You look so damn cute with that hat still on.”
She arched a questioning eyebrow in his direction. “You are blaming the hat,” she enquired breathless.
“No, I’m blaming you. You told me to come over here.”
“He’s right Captain,” came the feminine voice. They both turned abruptly to see B’Elanna standing there, a pair of dice being thrown in the air and then caught within her clutch. “Tom forgot his lucky dice,” she explained nonchalantly. Turning to leave, she tossed over her shoulder, “See you both….around.”
this is wonderful! I laughed out loud at the end 😂😍
Best Janeway Moment: ugh there are soo many good ones in this episode, but I cannot even begin to explain to you how much I LOVE Janeway pretending not to know how to play pool and then absolutely destroying everyone (possibly the best scene from all of Voyager) – and that wonderful eyebrow raise when she claims solids… please, just phaser me now 😩
And the way she claims that Chakotay’s animal Guide is a bear… oh my god…
and the way she she is so excited about finding her animal guide and the way she is so respectful of his culture.
And she is so surprised that he just came to her ready room out of blue to find her animal guide but have zero problem joining him of the floor to do that…
The way Chakotay takes her hand and places it on his Akoonah… (Yeah I’m a J/C shipper for life and I’m going down with it)
And one of best quotes that Kathryn ever says… “there is coffee in that nebula”…
this is 100% Kathryn Janeway in that episode people… the curious , excited yet respectful scientist, Total Nerd and the caffaine addicted pool-shark. (and I miss her in later seasons)
yes to all of those!😍
and I really love her reaction to Neelix’s “better than coffee substitute”
and the way she and Torres (v good scene between these two btw) dispute which ship is the real one, and of course Janeway is right
and that wonderful line from Janeway; “I’m just gonna have to give up coffee, that’s all there is to it” (lol as if)
this episode is a prime example of everything I love in janeway

Best Janeway Moment: You can totally see the internal struggle that is happening when she has to decide what to do with the Viidans. She has so much anger but somehow manages to keep true to her principles?!? And she definitely makes it clear to the Viidans just how badly they’re going to want to stay away from Voyager in the future
