The way they have “meetings” (dates) in her quarters with the lights low and romantic music playing.

and almost always wine.

because alcohol totally doesn’t lower people’s inhibitions.

oh no.

especially when those people have a HISTORY of mutual attraction and affection.

Love is the way he pronounces her name, when to everyone else she’s just a title.
Love is the way he helps her up when she falls down in the midst of battle.
Love is the way she smiles at him when he wakes in sickbay from another close call.
Love is the way she provides cream and sugar with the coffee set, though she hates using it at all.
Love is the closeness of the attention he pays her, when he hand-makes a bathtub from an off-hand remark.
Love is the way he conveys silent strength through their tightly-gripped hands as she prepares to depart.
Love is the truth in their “platonic, working dinners”. Love is what makes his heart break with her death.
Love is what makes her stand back and let go, then rewrite that past to erase her regrets.

Or it was all Kate Mulgrew’s fault.  Because let’s face it, she’s brilliant and devious and she WOULD intentionally incorporate a psychological gesture that harkens back to her character’s REAL love interest while her brainwashed psyche is enjoying its simulacrum.  Kate, if you did this on purpose, I simultaneously laud your successful ploy and elevate you to the position of chief life-ruiner EVER.  Congratulations.

I’m pretty new to the fandom and after I saw Resolutions and found out that Janeway and Chakotay never got together, I was so bummed I started reading fics right away. In many of them (oh who am I kidding, in pretty much all of them) Janeway caresses Chakotays Tattoo. So when I got to Workforce I jumped at this moment “Oh my god she’s subconsciously thinking of Chakotay…” In my excitement I forgot to ask myself who the heck was responsible for this!

The actual fuck? I never noticed that.

*After reading the whole text* DAMN!! I’m dead!!
